A man who allegedly sold counterfeit Viagra to the US health care provider has been jailed for two years.
Treatment by a U. S. federal court on Wednesday included three months of supervised prison time and ordered to pay $2.5 million to a former colleague, according to prosecutors.
The alleged transaction involved a counterfeit prescription drug, manufactured by an Indian company called Apotex, and contained approximately $100,000 in Pfizer stock, according to court documents.
Pfizer, the maker of Viagra, said the transaction was part of an international operation that involved more than 100 countries, including the United States, Canada and Britain.
The FDA approved the drug for sale in the US in November 2019, and it was the most-prescribed drug in the world to be approved by the FDA.
A former employee at Pfizer said: "This was a simple and highly effective way to get the drugs and save money."
